And here are the lineups…

The Forever Fallacy (Get Rich Slowly)

“The key thing to understand is that everything changes. You change. Your circumstances change. The people around you change. Nothing is forever. The challenge then is to balance this concept — everything changes — with living in the present. You must learn to enjoy today while simultaneously preparing for possible tomorrows.”

What if though something changes? Are you prepared for that change? Nothing stays constant forever. And that is something we need to provide some food for thought.

When Earning $1 Million A Year Isn’t Enough To Retire Early (Financial Samurai)

“the desire for money and prestige tends to corrode lives after a certain point. Once you make over $200,000 as an individual or $350,000 as a family, there is no additional happiness that accrues from making more money. Instead, lifestyle tends to deteriorate due to longer hours at the office, more stress, poorer physical health, and less family time.”

Through the illustration of Rachel Chen, Financial Samurai discusses why more money doesn’t necessarily means that it’s all worth it. At what cost is that money being made? Your mental well-being? Your physical well-being? Your family? Your relationship.

Why try to keep up with the Joneses when most of them are flat broke? (Think Save Retire)

“The Joneses believe happiness is bought through the acquisition of stuff. Many also believe precisely the opposite, that happiness can never be bought. The truth, according to one study, might be somewhere in-between.”

Is what you see really what it is? There could be deeper stories in between, debts untold, and stress unknown. Or it could just be a case of the grass is greener on the other side…

How do you stop the planet burning through climate change? Stop making babies (The Big Issue)

“Having a child increases your annual emissions by a staggering 700 per cent.”

A somewhat controversial statement but Winning did make his point here. Well, technically, he’s right. Having an extra human being on this earth does increase the carbon footprint. But hey, perhaps the kid might grow up to be a really socially responsible citizen and a strong influencer in climate change in future. Or maybe that’s just the optimist in me speaking?

Community rank (Seth Godin)

“Of all the contributions that have been made to this community, all the selfless acts, events organized, people connected–where do you stand?”

Class rank, school rank, even car ranks …. so many of them. Perhaps it’s time for us to do a community rank.

And here’s a quote to round it up.
